Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
I’m a 4th generation Canadian. My husband’s family however are from Ireland, with his Dad arriving here in the 1940’s. I had never celebrated St. Patrick’s Day growing up, but when I met the Kennedy’s, everything changed. His Mom introduced me to many delicious Irish dishes that are best when shared.
Here’s a countdown of my favourite classic Irish recipes you can share on this special day:
5. IRISH SODA BREAD from Brown Eyed Baker – there are lots of recipes around the web for soda bread in loaves or scones. You can always trust Michelle for a trusted classic recipe.
4. CORN BEEF AND CABBAGE – from Foodiecrush – this version is made in the slow cooker, bonus!
3. SHEPHERD’S PIE from bon appétit – I love this all-vegetable version of the classic recipe that subs in lentils for the classic beef .
2. GUINNESS BEEF STEW from Brown Eyed Baker – adding Guinness stout to a chocolate cake (check back here later this month for my recipe), or to this beef and potato stew, makes everyone feel Irish for a day.
1. CLASSIC IRISH COFFEE – This has to be my #1 favourite. At the Kennedy household this belly-warming beverage was served every St. Paddy’s Day. Just a note, they may have added a bit more whiskey than the recipe calls for… enjoy!
