An Ode to Green Smoothies

Whoever came up with health shakes and smoothies must’ve been fed up with the heavy and fattening smoothies that packed on quite the amount of calories. Well, thank goodness for that, because without it, there would be no healthy alternative.

Green smoothies, is a popular alternative to regular sweet shakes and drinks that are made blending green raw leafy vegetables (think spinach, kale, celery, among others) with delicious fruits such as oranges, kiwis, apples, mangoes, and more. We’ll admit, we have a slight craving right now!

Green smoothies are very nutritious when you factor in all the healthy fruits and veggies you’re blending together. Not only are they easy to digest, but the blended particles makes it easy on the body to assimilate these nutrients almost immediately. When you consume your greens in the form of a smoothie, you’re greatly reducing the consumption of oils and salt in your diet. By consuming two to three cups of green smoothies daily, you’ll gain enough greens for the day to nourish your body. And who can deny such a great source of fiber?

Instead of reaching for the pint of ice cream or divulging in an over-sized portion meal, head to your local juice bar or whip up your own DIY smoothie. They’re easy to make and quick to clean up after.

So, are you salivating yet? Check out our green smoothie picks below for all times of day!

Who says smoothies can’t be served in the evening… just take them up a notch! This one uses my favourite – coconut water with delicious in-season peaches to create a smoothie worthy of the ‘cocktail hour’!
